Dye flow visualization
WebJan 1, 1994 · This paper reviews the evolution of a flow visualization technique called the photochromic dye method. This technique uses a photochromic dye in solution. The dye is activated along narrow lines by passing sharply focused UV light through the solution. WebDyes used for flow visualization should fulfill several requirements: Besides some general properties such as being nontoxic, noncorrosive, etc., desired properties are neutral buoyancy, high stability against mixing, and good visibility. Popular dyes for flow experiments in water are food coloring and ink.
